I grabbed this one off the library book shelf when I saw "Jane Austen" in the title. Later I regretted it when I found myself alone with this book while trapped on a bus stuck in traffic. It's worse than the Harlequin Romances my mother read in the 70s: the plot is transparent, the characters are completely shallow and one-dimensional, and how can two people who do nothing but spit spite at each other fall in love? Crass, trite, unimaginative and predictable. This was on one of the Bargain Book aisles at Barnes & Noble for 4.95, and I couldn't resist. With our member discount (yes, we're that nerdy!), it was only about three bucks, so I figured it was worth at least that much. Those of you who know me know how incredibly picky I am about any and all things related to Jane Austen. This book, however, was refreshingly interesting. A bit predictable in terms of plot and at times downright unrealistic, but the writing was witty enough to keep you interested and reading. It has "rom com movie" written all over it, and I did find in a google search that someone had bought the movie rights, so we'll see what happens! Definitely not a literary classic by any stretch of the imagination, but a fun, light-hearted quick read for sure.
Do You like book The Jane Austin Marriage Manual (2000)?

After giving this book a good 137 page try, I just couldn't get into it. I don't really care what happens to any of the characters in it, and that is such a big deal for me when I'm reading--I should either want them to get their commupence, or get through something or learn something, or just have their happy ending, but in this book, I really just don't care, so I am officially giving up on it.

Brain candy with a totally Harlequin Romance ending. What fun!
