About book The Hunger Games Trilogy (2011)

Agreed, it's teenage fiction and there is quite a lot of blood and death. But then I was frightened by '1984' at 14 and this generation of young people have all been exposed to the horrors of Palestine and the like on tv and facebook. The book explores some big themes; lovers and friends, exploitation by the state through media, loyalty and betrayal. Why not? The politics of anti-fascism is a bit simplistic (the parallels with the gladiatorial circuses of ancient Rome are obvious) but set against this background the author explores the maturing of the heroine's character. The plot moves at a cracking pace and most of the characters are believeable. Interesting to compare this with Hugh Howey's 'Wool' trilogy. Do we have a genre here? This trilogy has been absolutely amazing. I first read this series last year. I never really thought I'd liked it, I thought it was more of a Twilight book, so I wasn't so sure. But once I started to read I thought it was great! Everyone says the beginning is hard to get into but I loved the beginning as soon as I started reading because of the great amount of details. And to think the first book was t good enough, Suzanne Collins really outdid herself in the second book, Catching Fire. The series is funny, sad, romantic and wonderful. It does take to Twilight in some ways like how Katniss has to choose between Peeta and Gale, whom both love her. The end is great when she decides who she really wants to be with. And not who will help her to survive, but who will help her to really live. It is suck a beautifully written novel and Suzanne Collins has gone down as one of my favorite authors of all time. If you've seen the movies and not the book and you've liked them, or even of you didn't, I'll tell you that the book is even better, and no movie could exceed it. (Although I also think the books are fantastic will Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and many others)
