Do you like adventures? Then you should read Gregor and The Prophecy of Bane. This is the second book of the series Gregor the Overlander. This book's genre is adventure. I thought this book was interesting because every time I read a chapter I don't want to put the book down. This book is about Gregor. In the beginning Gregor took his sister to go sledding. When he wasn't looking Boots was taken away by huge cockroaches. Gregor forgot about the portal to the underworld in the park. When Greogor went down the portal he was chased by big rats. To escape from them he jumped off a cliff and Ares the bat caught him. Gregor was taken to Regalia the kingdom of the humans and he found his sister. When he asked Vikus why the cockroaches took his sister, Vikus said to him to protect her from the rats because the prophecy. Then he was taken to the prophecy room to read the prophecy of Bane. The prophecy said that he has to kill a big white rat or his sister might die. Gregor began to train for his mission. He met Luxa's cousins. Gregor started to train with Luxa's cousins. When he was called to go in front of the cannon he hit all the balls shooting at him. When all the underlanders noticed Gregor ran away and hid at Ares hideout. The they heard the horns ringing and that meant that rats were inside the kingdom. When he saw the rats he noticed it was his friend Ripred. Ripred came to give a rat named Twitchtip to help in the journey to help locate the bane in the maze. Twictchtip is no ordinary rat she can smell colors. So Gregor gets ready for his journey. Gregor, Twitchtip, Boots, Temp, Mareth, Luxa's cousin Henry, Pandora, Ares, and Andromeda went on the journey. Their first obstacle was a squid attack. Gregor and Temp was pulled under water. Ares got Gregor out of the water. When he was back on the boat he started to defend the boat by slicing the tentacles. At the end Temp lost two leg and Gregor was poisoned on his left arm. When he woke up Luxa was there and Aurora.Their second obstacle was a whirlpool. They had to lose one boat with half of their supplies. For food they sent their bats to catch fish. Then they saw a new island that was not mapped. They explored the island and sent their bats to eat bugs. When Ares and Pandora we eating bugs a big cloud of bugs ate Pandora to the bone. Henry tried to help his bond but Mareth knocked him out cold. To escape the cloud Ares went underwater and a bunch of fish started to eat the bugs. When they go to the maze they went to a tunnel and rats woke up the serpents, The serpents broke the boat and everyone was separated. Gregor lost his sister but Luxa had her. when he went to a different tunnel he only saw Ares, Andromeda, Henry, Mareth who was injured, and Twitchtip. Twitchtip said that Luxa and Boots went underwater. when Gregor thought that Boots was dead, he ordered Henry to go back and take Mareth to Regalia. Gregor told him that he was going to kill the bane. When he went inside the tunnel of the bane he saw a white baby rat. He didn't want kill it because it remind him of Boots. So he took it to Ripreds nest, so that Ripred could take care of it. When they got back to Regalia he told the people that he didn't kill the Bane and he was accused of treason. When he was on trial Nerrissa saved them because he wasn't supposed to kill the bane. He was supposed to save it. At night he heard Boots voice and followed it. When came upon a room he saw Boots with six other cockroaches. He asked what happened to Luxa and Aurora and she said that they were fighting the rats and made her run with Temp. Lastly they went home and when they walked into the door his family hugged him. My favorite character is Gregor because he is a sweet guy. I think he is a sweet guy because he protected his sister from the squid attack. Also when he lost Boots he went to find her. My favorite scene is the squid attack because their was so much action going on and you can vision it. I would rate this book a five out of five stars because it was so interesting. I would recommend this book to people wholove adventure. So if you like adventure, then you should read Gregor and the prophecy of Bane.
Lots of excellent character development and further fun in this sequel to Gregor the Overlander. I loved learning a bit more about Gregor's other sister, Lizzie, and the mysterious, insightful Mrs. Cormaci. In some ways this book only became sillier than the first, adding mercenary fireflies to the already well-rounded cast of talking animals and insects, but I can sense that Collins wrote with a hidden sense of humour. I get the impression that she wouldn't be too uptight to laugh at herself and poke fun of the series, yet there is surprising depth and intelligence as she continues to deal with themes of poverty, war, family and death. The way that both Luxa and Gregor carry the burdens and responsibilities more suitable to adults twice their age once again broke my heart. As I did with the first book, I listened to this one on audio. Although the narrator was still quite good, as audio-book narrators go, there were some weird inconsistencies between this book and the first one. He really changed a couple of voices, especially Boots'. He did an awesome toddler voice in the first book, but he totally changed the way he did her voice this time around and I didn't like it as much. He also added a random southern drawl for the grandmother that she didn't have in the first book, and I thought Vikus sounded different too. Not a bad narration, but it was just weird that he wasn't more consistent with the character's voices. If that's something that is likely to bother you, you may want to consider picking this one up in print instead of audio. Still a solid four-star listen though!

I just started the second book of underland chronicals it is a really good series.I think this book is a action packed novel but if you read them out of order you will not understand whats going on.So in the book these huge roaches took his little sister named boots.Gregor finds another gateway near central park that gateway leads to the underland. He thought it would be his last time ever going there well he was totally wrong. He starts to search for his sister and he is walking down a tunnel and then he sees a ton of rats running towards him.He shines his light back and he sees to gigantic rats coming towards him.So then he just jumps of this edge and he falls and all of a sudden his old friend swoops by and catches him. That old friend is the bat that they had gotten that bond.

I'm loving this series so much. To be perfectly honest, there are some reasons to knock a star off the rating, most of them simply relating back to the fact that it's a middle grade book. I mean, it is surprisingly layered and deals with some big consequences for it's main character, Gregor. There was a bit of repetition in the story telling and the communication of his emotions that I can see wearing on a more adult reader. For me, personally, I just loved Gregor so much, that I didn't mind. He's such a wonderful character, though not a perfect one. He's caring and brave, though he tends to get frustrated with others and jumps quickly to conclusions. One of the best things about Gregor in the first book was that he was completely "normal." He was just a boy stuck in an adventure. In this book, Gregor discovers a gift and at first I wasn't too happy about it. All said and done, though, I think it was very well played. One, because the first book hinted that this was always the series was headed. I mean, Gregor was a prophesied warrior, so it follows that there was SOMETHING out of the ordinary about him. Two, because his "gift" is something that is so contrary to who Gregor is-- the protector, care-giver. It was another way Collins picked apart things of life, death and war. I read this on a road trip and it went by so quickly, which made it perfect trip reading.

Summary"Hear it scratching down below,"Rat of long-forgotten snow,"Evil cloaked in coat of white"Will the Warrior drain your light?"The Prophecy of Bane foretold the coming of a monstrous white rat, which only the Overland Warrior can defeat. Gregor is shocked that the Underlanders expect him to slay the beast. Unfortunately, that's not the worst part of the prophecy."Die the baby, die his heart,"Die his most essential part."Die the peace that rules the hour."Gnawers have their key to power."The rats think that by killing Gregor's two-year old sister Boots, they'll be able to stop the warrior and emerge victorious. No way is Gregor letting anyone hurt his baby sister, so it's off on another quest to find and kill this white rat. But underneath all the fancy words of the prophecy, Gregor is just a kid. Can he really defeat this monster?ReviewFirst, a word of warning. Although the ending of Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane can't technically be called a cliff-hanger, the fates of key characters are left in limbo. If you're the kind of person who can't stand not knowing what happened to your characters, might I humbly suggest making sure you keep a copy of the third book, Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods, handy. It was good to be back in Underland, and there were interesting new characters to meet. One of my favorites included Twitchtip, a rat driven out for possessing a keen sense of smell with the ability to see the future. I also really liked that Suzanne Collins developed Nerissa, Luxa's cousin with the ability to see the future. (Guess I must like prophets.)I think that, out of all the prophecies, this one had my favorite twist. It was such a simple thing, and it immediately changed the whole course of the story. I'm normally pretty good at figuring out twists, but this caught me by surprise. As in all of The Underland Chronicles, you can expect page-turning suspense, action a-plenty, lovable characters, intense violence, and death. Probably best suited for older elementary and up.
