About book The House I Loved (2012)

This was a very easy read and written in diary format. This historical fiction takes place in Paris during a 20 year reconstruction process to modernize the city in the late 1800's. It gives a very personal outlook on what it must have been like for the families who lived there at that time. I found this book very insightful and provided a very accurate scenario for the devastation that came upon the community during this period of intense renovation. I agree with the reviewers who are disappointed in this novel compared to "Sarah's Key." Although it doesn't pull at your heart with the same ferocity as "Sarah's Key," "The House I Loved" is a book I enjoyed and will recommend. Its tender writing and moving tale of a 19th century Parisian widow's love and loyalty for her family and their home, which is scheduled to be razed, is a powerful read.

It had such potential, but it just limped along. Very disappointing
