A wonderful book for cat lovers, and people interested in Japanese culture. If you're into cats, a lot of the observations will make you smile, if you're not, well, you'll be even more baffled by why we feline fans love them so much. The comment about how all cat owners think their cat is the best-looking cat ever made me smile. But just for the record, my cat IS the best-looking cat ever. Seriously, she is... I'm a recent cat enthusiast. I used to abhor them - yes that is the best way to put it. I love the poetic imagery in this book. I've spent some time in Japan and was quite fascinated by the culture. Takashi puts a great deal of effort in laying out the details to create this short yet lovely story. I never knew what a Japanese Zelkova looked like until I read this book. This very tree stands in front of my aunt's house and turns deep red in the fall! I can relate to Chibi in that I'm free spirited and always a guest at random people's houses - mainly family and friends. I'm sad when cats go missing - it just leaves owners in a state of confusion and things are never really the same afterward. This is basically the jist of the story.
