About book The Glassblower (2014)

Excellent book! Well written and well-plotted, the author weaves an enchanting tale of three sisters struggling to stay together and be self-sufficient in a man's world. Like most sisters, they quarrel and have their differences, but their love and support for one another never wavers. Woven into their story is a good history lessen about glass-blowing, Christmas traditions, and even the iconic American "Woolworth" stores, as well as day-to-day life in late nineteenth century Germany.Clear your calendar and find a comfortable chair... you're going to be there awhile! I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next one in the trilogy. This is the story of three determined sisters, living in a time when women were not known to embrace their passions for work outside of the home. I found this book very engaging, even though there were a few things that happened to two of the sisters that were very disturbing. I especially enjoyed the character of Johanna, the eldest sister, who made her way completely on her own, doing things that interested her. Overall, a compelling read.
