About book The End Of Diabetes: The Eat To Live Plan To Prevent And Reverse Diabetes (2012)
Extremely helpful and possibly life-saving for me. While all whole foods plant-based diets can be healing, tweaking them to suit your metabolic issues can make a world of difference. Dr. Fuhrman has helped me see what I need to do to deal with my insulin resistance (which is what is making it exceedingly difficult for me to lose weight, which puts me in a vicious food addiction cycle, and which would ultimately lead to full-blown diabetes down the road). I feel much better when I eat primarily whole foods, but to be more diabetic friendly and feel really good, I need to drop the grains to a small amount; they should not be a staple for me. I have intuitively felt I need to do this anyway. I will eat a serving of oats and maybe a bit of quinoa and barley in a soup, but that will be it. Also, Dr. Fuhrman does not advocate a low fat diet, which is wonderful!! I feel perpetually hungry and hyper-focused on food when I try to eat low fat. No oils of course, but he definitely encourages you to get your servings of nuts and seeds in everyday. I still don't think I will follow his low salt guidelines. I definitely believe in and feel good with less salt but almost no salt anywhere in the diet is yuck and a road to failure for me. Maybe I will get there one day. I've changed my diet thanks to Joel Fuhrman. I didn't have diabetes, but I was eating more and more sugar and feeling very tired and did not know how to get off the sugar treadmill. I've read lots of books about healthy diet, but there were missing pieces that made it hard to understand the full picture about digestion and metabolism. This book provides those missing pieces and is the first diet book I fully understood. The suggestions work and have made it much easier to stick to this diet and not crave sweets or junk. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is looking to eat healthier and enjoy excellent health for decades to come.
