This book probably deserves more of a 3 star rating, but I enjoyed it so much anyway, I'm giving it 4 stars (because I DID really like it!).Julie - the heroine of the story - is mostly likable. She's got her issues but she tries to be a good friend, sister, and daughter. What I didn't like about the book was that we often loose sight of Julie as a person versus what she's feeling at the moment. I get it, really I do...teenagers, hormones, first crushes, etc, etc. But I thought Julie was/is a good person and I would have like to see more of her personality shine instead of the irresponsible teenager she becomes. Huh. I guess that's just part of being a teenager?Moving on...Julie's friends are fun, though you don't see as much of them as I would have liked. Katie is the exception to the rule, but Julie repeatedly points out how crappy of a friend Katie can be to the entire group. Why do they still hang out with her?As for the male leads both are quite mysterious and seemingly great, gentlemanly guys, though again I think Julie's hormones get the best of her judgement.Overall the story moves at an okay pace. Julie's ignorance to what's going on around her is a bit irritating at times, though I suppose realistic. Definitely interested in reading the next book! Since her mothers disipearance when she was 5 years old, she doesn't remember what what happened even though she was there. Ever since then though she's been able to since peoples emotions. When she runs out of gas one night she decides to walk the last mile home......through a forest at night. Of course something doesn't go right with that sineraio and she meets Nicholas. He's different from anyone she's ever met and his presence is calming compaired to most people, but what secrets is he hiding?Nicholas was such a lost soul and throughout all I wanted was for him to be able to live life a little more normally and with Julia you root for them to get their chance. Loved seeing Julia grow throughout and had fun watching the banter between her and her brother. This is the first of a trilogy all parts are already avalible and we all know that's an awsome perk.
