This sweet story, fraught with emotion, was hard to put down. Yes, there were a couple of obvious contrivances, but as the author stated in his note at the end, if God could use a seagull in a real-life parallel to cause a sea captain to change course, then the other "coincidences" in the story don't seem so implausible. At any rate, they don't detract from the beauty and depth of this charming love story.MINOR SPOILER ALERT: If you're a dog lover and are worried about what happens to Crabby, I assure you he has a happy ending, too! Just can't bring myself to finish this drivel. The topic sounded good- newlyweds in the 1800's on their honeymoon aboard a steamship are separated when the boat sinks. The writer lost me when he made both the husband (afloat on a wood door in the ocean). and the wife (aboard a rescue ship) the most amazingly perfect people you could imagine- rescuing people, fighting off bad guys, always the voices of reason in every situation with impeccable manners. YYAAAAWWWWNNNN. And then I realized the book was nothing but an attempt to lead the reader into religion? Forget it. Lousy writing, the characters were like cardboard facsimiles and the plot was silly. On to the next book.
