About book The Daisy Chain (2013)

The book is a very quick read... even for a novella. The description of the book includes the relationship between five friends and how each are still looking for Mister Right. It appears only one, Jess, has managed to find her guy, who dies. When we meet Jess it is the anniversary of her husbands death and she is knee deep in wedding video and Kleenex. After Charlie passes, Jess is sued by her two adult step children for the portion of the estate her dead husband has left her. Mourning has trapped Jess from friends and family, but when she must deal with the lawsuit she finally comes face to face with her financial advisor Preston Michaels. In a relatively few number of pages Jess and Preston find themselves on a date on Charlie's old yacht. Preston's idea... an odd one in my book. If I were trying to woo a woman I wouldn't take her out on the boat formerly owned by her dead husband whom she is deeply grieving. However, Heather Moore would have us believe that Jess finds this comforting and thoughtful. The friendship amongst the five women is very undeveloped. They appear to be included as a sense of obligation. Too bad, this could have been good. All in all, the book would have been much better if expanded or had fewer characters. The rollercoaster emotion ride was a bit extreme as well. I enjoyed this sweet novella. It's the third I have read of the Aliso Creek series. They can be read in any order. In this story Jess is still mourning the loss of her husband who died a year ago. She is torn between holding on to that grief and moving on in her life. Preston is her financial adviser. They talk often over the phone, but Jess has been reluctant to meet him in person because of her growing feelings for him. I enjoyed watching Jess's friend Arie encourage Jess to move on her life. I have read Arie's story and liked seeing her from a different perspective. Preston is the perfect hero in this book. So fun to watch the relationship develop.I am enjoying the characters in this series a great deal. The novellas are perfect for a quick read and a peak into each of the characters' lives.
