About book The Cat, The Wife And The Weapon (2012)
Jillian is a talented widow who makes cat quilts and helps solve murders.Tom is her main squeeze. He is a security expert and a really good and kind man. When Jillian returns home from a trip selling her quilts she is uneasy because she cannot get in touch with Tom. After she allows her 3 cats to have food and water and become comfy at home, she starts looking for Tom. At his home, she finds a man who is not Tom and he has allowed Tom's diabetic cat to escape the house. Her first instinct is to try to find the cat and get him to the vet.The man tells her that he is Tom's brother, a brother she did not know existed. This book introduces Jillian to a great deal of history about Tom's life before she knew him.He has a stepson he dearly loves, which means he also has an ex-wife. He definitely does not dearly love her. And the ex-wife has a most recent husband, a former partner from the time when Tom was a policeman.I do not want to give away too much. So, I will try to tread softly.Jillian and Tom are friends with a special policewoman, an assistant DA, and many others who help them find out what is happening in town. There is a murder and the suspicion at first falls on both Tom and his stepson, Finn. There are circumstances that popup and seem to add even more layers of mystery to the situation. This is a good mystery. And that is to be expected. Leann Sweeney has written a good series which includes Jillian's 3 cats as main characters. They add atmosphere and a comfy feeling to the stories. The plot is interesting with clues along the way that can point the reader down the right path. The character development is excellent. The books express the obvious affection that the hometown characters have for one another. This series is one I would recommend to any reader who enjoys cozy mysteries which are filled with solid plot development and well rounded characterizations. If you have ever lived in a small town, this series will bring you memories of the feelings that invokes. Get the book and you will see what I mean. Even better, get the first book in the series and start there. This is a nice cozy series (this is #4)especially if you like cats. It's a fun read except for one thing. Most cozies have a subplot about a character that doesn't get along with the protagonist, but this series has the dumbest, most irritating one of any series I have read. Thankfully, it plays a very, very minor role in this particular book, but the author would be wise to drop it entirely in my opinion. The plot of this book is interesting, but very unrealisitic, so don't expect deep intrigue.
