I liked this a little bit better than the first one. I enjoyed this one because of some really nice kinky scenes involving sounds, wax play, and breath play. It also was nice watching Derek and Lane just being completely in love with each other. Lane's parents still are bringing drama but it also helped to Lane deal with a few of his own issues. Lane still is a pretty timid guy and it brought up some interesting problems for Derek in the book as well. This was a nice book that helped to expand Derek and Lane's relationship. Pretty satisfied with this book. The D/s part of their relationship was beautifully portrayed and the scenes were fresh and intimate. Early on, I sort of complained that the erotica here wasn't really hot. To clarify, this did not mean that there wasn't enough steam. Far from it. The sex scenes were scorching hot and extremely graphic. What bothered me somewhat was that -for the first half of the book- there was so much sadness and vulnerability depicted that it kind of brought me down. Don't get me wrong,it's exactly what made me love the book eventually because it made the characters so very real and relatable. But for a while there, I just wanted to be more into the grinning/fanning/blushing phase than the "awwww poor Laney..." All in all, this is a very good story and not in the least similar to the first book. The relationship between Lane and Derek is constantly growing and moving forward so don't expect to be reading more of the same stuff. I would even argue that I enjoyed the sequel more. Highly recommend!
