Having finished the trilogy, I very much enjoyed it. This last volume answers many of the questions brought up by the earlier two books, but I can't give it full marks.The major fallacy is DiTerlizzi has tried to do too much. Either that or there are materials that have never been released. He's clearly thought up a great deal of the world of Orbona. Even to the point of designing the alphabet for their writing. But this serves as the perfect example of the problems. Even in the first volume, the alphabet is presented for the readers benefit, so that they may better be able to translate any Orbonian writing that they may come across. That's great, except with the possible exception of the maps at the end of each book, this writing NEVER makes an appearance. As a result, the alphabet becomes a sort of tease that will never lead to any form of satisfaction.This final book ends on a very clear note, but again, DiTerlizzi feels the need to give the reader just a few bits more...setting various epilogues centuries into the future. But none of these serve any purpose, aside from being mildly amusing. Even the titular "WondLa," is explained at the end of the first book and then becomes a sort of talisman word for "Family" or "Peace." But yet, they persist in making references to it, that serve no point.I guess that, as much as I did like reading the books, I felt that the potential was there for it to be greater than it is.I have been quite insistent in my past comments about the books that it is reminiscent of anime stories. This is even more pronounced with the final book and I believe that DiTerlizzi finally acknowledges this with a small reference to a geographic location known as Hiyao's Hook. Maybe it's coincidence, but I feel confident that this is named for Hiyao Miyazaki, whose work "Nausicaa" seems to be a sister story to this one.So to wrap, this was a lot of fun, and the artwork is beautiful. The series overall is definitely for middle graders, but can easily be enjoyed by older readers. This is it. The final journey of Eva Nine. The world and its life forms depend on this last journey. In search of many people and items she will try to cover her tracks of failure and try again to save her friend Rovender. With the imagination of Tony DiTerlizzi anything is possible on Eva's fateful journey. If u like action, adventure, and sci-fy, this is the book series for you! Hope you guys like it!
