This book is cute, lighthearted, and a quick read! I completed it in 2-3 hours, to re-live my freshman year of high school. Janie reminds me of myself a lot. A witty, sarcastic girl with a little bit of edge. She plays bass and lives on a farm. I play the drums, and I also live in the middle of nowhere (not a farm, but we have sheep and barn cats). I could relate to her a lot, and I remember that being really nice when I read this book for the first time, as a lowly high school freshman, and felt like someone actually understood me. This short little 211 page book showed me that "normal is vastly overrated" and actually helped me to be myself. Also the author is an Elvis Costello fan and I love Elvis Costello. I recommend this book to girls (or anyone really) of all ages, especially those in middle and early high school. It's cute and unremarkable, and yet, it is remarkable, in it's own way. I really like this quirky book... It just speaks to me. :) It was a great book! Not intense, yet life changing to me. Although I will say that it was just a bit of a drag for the first three quarters of the book. I cant say that it was a book for everyone, because that simply isn't true. I loved it simply because of the originality of the plot, it was an idea that wasn't common in the books that I have read. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something with a subtle story but a different story line.
