Although my hopes for this novel were high because of the reviews, I was sadly disappointed. I usually love girly reads especially love stories (I.e. Emily Giffin) but this book was not up to par. The main story hung on 2 big plot points.... That they both really loved each other and that he is bipolar/ she has family history of cancer, but these facts were repeated over and over to the point where it got old. It felt like the author ran out of ideas on how to keep the reader entertained so she just repeated the same points, instead of keeping the reader guessing! Although these points could make for a very interesting book, it fell flat and caused the characters to me one dimensional and predictable. Not my cup of tea..... oh.... so much... loved this book to the moon and back! I had to hurry up and finish it before we got on a plane, because I'm an ugly cry type, so that wouldn't be good in confined spaces with strangers. There is so much I love about this book. I loved all the characters, and different parts of them, and understood all of them and where they were coming from. I also loved that it presented so many facets of an unconceivable dilemma no one asks for but many are presented with, and no matter how close you are to the situation, you just can't know what you'd do unless you were in those very shoes. Such a sweet, amazing, bittersweet story.

Ich habe gelacht, ich habe geweint und empfehle dieses Buch allen, die sich für unkonventionelle Liebesgeschichten und psychische Krankheiten interessieren und nicht schon nach zwei Seiten wissen wollen, wie die Geschichte endet.

Stepping into the personal lives and struggles of this couple, and their families was a tapestry of realism. Addressing many difficult issues, noting with them the options before them and watching the choices made play out.... Was full of emotion for I, only the reader. However, is life so full of major challenges all at once? Might that be the "piling on" feeling we get at times. Can we find a balance that works for us? After reading, reflections come. During reading, tears flow spontaneously....
