I loved this magical story and the dear characters created by Gail Carson Levine. mystery, magic and detective skills about in this novel. I was particularly impressed with the fluidity of the authoress's interpretation of magical creatures: the ogre in this novel was of such a markedly different cast to the ogres of say, Ella Enchanted. To survive and save those in danger, Elodie must help solve the mystery and learn who is trustworthy and who is not.This was a fun mystery seeped in a fantasy world with rather quirky characters. I didn’t always believe that the logic of the dragon was the only logic that could be deduced or induced, but it was fun following “it’s” thought process.Pros: Left me guessing most of the book, not sure who to trust (a good thing for a mystery).Cons: There seemed to be holes in how what happened (how it happened) and who was involved. Based on everything it seemed like more than those implicated would have been required to aptly pull off the crimes committed; some of the characters were annoying, but that was part of their quirkiness.
