By the author of the Clarice Bean and Charlie & Lola children’s books, this is the third in the Ruby Redfort series. Ruby is a super-smart, witty 13 year old secret agent. The story begins when she is at dive camp learning to scuba dive. She has this recurring dream about almost drowning and her best friend (Clancy) is deathly afraid of sharks. All this becomes critically important when they get wrapped up in a quest that involves pirates, missing jewels, and a mythical (maybe!) sea creature. Ruby is a great character and her adventures should appeal to the fans of Alex Rider and Percy Jackson. The action is quick and there are puzzles and codes throughout that help her solve the mystery. An appendix at the end explains the various codes used in the book. It’s obvious that this is not Ruby’s first adventure because there are references throughout to other experiences and villains, but this story stands alone and could be read first (like I did). Ok so we start off where we left of in the last book which is Ruby being a spectrum agent and working with the house manger or butler Hitch to kick butt together her best friend Clancy also knows but he cannot tell anyone or else they will both be in trouble. Yet of course only being 13 nobody trusts Ruby even though she did stop the evil count in the last book.So Ruby is training to be able to dive and hold her breath for over a minute and just generally be awesome. But something is going on in the seas a spectrum diver has been killed ,pirates are kidnapping ships fish have disappeared and tankers going of Corse and what is this mysterious singing people keep on hearing . Also who on earth is following ruby around and what does he want. Ruby must find out whets happening before it too late and something bad definitely happens.Yes it is a kids book... but I used to read clarice bean as a child and I couldnt miss this new series! I loved this book it’s just brings me back to my childhood it has lots of interesting stuff going on and it does have puzzles in the book which even though I am a teenager I cannot solve. It’s full of action and mystery and leaves the door open for another book.
