Syren is the 5th book of the ever growing Septimus Heap Series, and yet still can get you as excited as the first book. Although this book takes part as one with oceans and ships and I hate oceans and Ships, I still loved this book. Fresh new characters take their part with the old ones, giving this book a perfect touch. Even when you are reading this book for the sixth time you still feel as excited as you were when you first read it. This book is amazing. In Syren, we see Septimus' angsty side emerge. After attempting to fly home through a massive storm with Jenna and Beetle, the trio find themselves marooned when SpitFyre's tail is struck by lightening. While they are stuck there, Septimus (and only Septimus for most of the book) meets an earlier ExtraOrdinary Apprentice: Syrah. Unfortunetly the beautiful, talented girl is possessed by a spirit (Hey, no ones perfect). Septimus spends most of the story incredibly paranoid after what befell him in Queste. For the first time since Magyke, he reverts to his old Young Army ways (assisted by the reappearance of Boy 409 in this story). I've always wondered at Septimus' sudden reversal of years of indoctrination by the Young Army, and the fact that he still hasn't shaken it was realistic and a reminder that Sep has had a very difficult life to date.I also felt very sorry for Spit-Fyre, poor stupid dragon that he is. The description of him chewing on his infected tale was pathetically comical, as anyone who has ever had a pet with a surgery or wound knows. We aso get more hints as the the "history" of the ancient times before Magyke, and hmmmm it sounds alot like our times. Mysterious....
Do You like book Syren (2010)?
Love Septimus Heap and all his adventures- with a couple of small irritants. It seems like the author is stretching a bit- Septimus goes on adventure after adventure with hardly a rest. I'd like to see some time passing between books. Also, minor characters from earlier books often come back and play a role in these later books, so sometimes it is really confusing when the author mentions someone I hadn't read about in 5 years- and doesn't give much background information for.

One of the boring stories of the series so far.
