I don't know why I keep reading these. I bought a /load/ of them (thank you Kindle daily deal and a load of positive reviews) and they're usually quick enough. This one was about a zillion pages and took /forever/. Unrelenting misery, everyone needlessly cruel, blah blah blah - this woman is the queen of the tortured hero. Sub-par writing (I can't believe this gets published, actually) - despite most of the book taking place 11 thousand years ago, everyone talks like modern frat boys. Rampant misogyny - pretty much all the female characters are stupid or ragingly awful for no reason. I'm starting to lose track of the massive cast of characters that make appearances without any background of lead-in (or re-introduction if they've been a small part of another book). They gay characters so far have been UNRELENTINGLY cruel and evil. This one at least had a plot, which is why it gets two stars. Some of them are so dull that nothing even happens in them. If you are a follower of this series you must read this book. It is utterly devastating in the most beautiful way. The only complaint, (potential spoiler alert) is that I wish when Acheron finally came to understand what his brother had been through it was more of a complete and apologetic experience. I felt it was a little rushed and didn't seem to completely capture everything Styxx went through, whereas Styxx had to experience what Acheron went through. I loved how many other plot-lines were tied together. This book absolutely broke my heart but yet I couldn't put it down.
