Eh.I found the narrator Trudi to be shallow, self-centered and overly jealous.This memoir struck me as the kind of book you would get if you asked your grandmother to write her WWII experiences. They're a bit disjointed, spend lots of time on insignificant events while blowing through entire years, and aren't terribly interesting.I don't see this as the epic memoir of WWII that it's been made out to be. Thanks Jan for recommending this wonderful beautifully written memoir which reminds the readers of the horrors of war on families.A copy self published memoir is found on a bookshelf of an Cambridge Book byUrsula Doyle, an associate publisher at Virago, who says that Trudi’s memoir “is a story of love and hatred, of civilization and barbarism, of home and exile, and above all, of the heroism of a completely ordinary, extraordinary woman.
