Small Damages was the story of Kenzie and her experience of pregnancy. She was sent to live with Estela, a spanish women, because Kenzie's mom wanted no one to know that she was pregnant. This novel is about how Kenzie deals with the fact she wants to keep her baby but her mom and boyfriend do not want too. She is sent to Estela to give birth to a baby who she would then give up to a young couople. Kenzie deals with losing faith in love and building new connections with new people. She builds a connection with Estela that allows them both to grow as people. Beth Kephart created an intriguing story using two different backgrounds and languages. Going back and forth between present and past was rather hard to understand. I do not think this book was a page turner, there was no build up to the climax. The climax was not strong, and it was hard to keep track of all the characters thoughts and stories. If you are looking for a quick read, this is an okay choice. I would not recommend this book if you are looking to thoroughly enjoy a novel. Pros: I enjoyed the imagery the author used to describe Kenzie's life in Spain. I also appreciated how the dialogue was not in quotations. It seemed to make the writing more fluid.Everything in this book was orange. Kevin, Kenzie, the cover, Spain. I liked it.Cons:It was a slow-paced, introspective book. Not for thrill-seekers at all. Having the perfect, All-American father of your child named Kevin? Really? The book was deep in thought, yet not at all. You never really touched upon any one thing.
