Wow, this was a great book. I had a similar experience when I lost my job two years ago, I can really relate. However, I did not have the resources that Dominique had. She handled the transition well by moving out of her house. A house is not a home if you are the only one in it. She moved to a place that she enjoyed, planted mint, and continued to write and live - not just exist. It's the quality of life that really matters. She also managed to get rid of Stroller (boyfriend) who was actually married, separated, whatever. She went through a lot of phases, but the end result was being comfortable in her skin and enjoying living. Losing a job does not mean that life is gone, there's so much out there; have fun and live life. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family members. I was looking forward to reading this memoir about a woman in NYC who was laid off as editor of Home and Garden magazine in 2008. The book recounts the time she spent looking for work and getting to know herself during a period of a few years. Unfortunately much of the story revolves around her relationship with a married man, and it is truly an uninteresting and annoying relationship. The book reads like an extended blog and includes long passages where she contemplates cooking, relationships, and home decorating. I stopped reading it at the halfway mark. No thanks.
