About book Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put On My Pajamas, And Found Happiness (2010)
This book isn't a page-turner or one that will keep you engaged for hours on end, but Dominique is "real" and honest about her journey from the corporate world to queen of her own surroundings. Many women (including myself) find joy, peace, and once suppressed passion for life when we can step away from the hurried pace of an office setting. Whether it's taming a mint garden, letting go of an old addiction, losing weight, or just being able to stay up past midnight on a supposed "work night" without feeling guilty is so liberating. There is some wonderful writing in this tale of recovery from job loss, health scares, downsizing from a family home and career change. I've saved two quotes because the thoughts were wonderful. However, there were times when I wanted to send in the punctuation police. I also was exasperated with Stroller and the on again off again relationship. I found myself skimming when I saw his name come up during the last chapters of the book. Finally, it was amazing how the story seemed to have a perfect end. How many people who lost their job and career during the recent depression were able to sell their house, build a new one and begin again? The problems were very real and yet Ms Browning was lucky enough to survive, land on her feet again and publish a book of her experiences. I'm glad she found happiness and hope many more folks do too.
