She Had It Coming by Mary MonroeI’ve had this book for some years now and just recently got around to finishing. The book started slow that’s why it was so easy for me to put down and whenever I would try to pick it up again something else would draw my attention away from reading. However this time I gave myself a week to finish the book and once I got several pages into the book I was able to see the plot pick up and come alive. Although the plot did pick up, it also seem to slow down and it felt drawn out so I do what I always do when I feel like the story is taking too long to get to the point….I skipped pages. Maybe I should say skipped but more like skimmed. In the end, the book ended without a nice little red bow (meaning everything was wrapped up). Overall the book was okay. "She Had It Coming" is a story about two friends, Delores and Valerie. Delores is a product of foster care and Valerie is the product of an abusive step-father who terrorizes his family. Delores witness Valerie and her mother kill Mr. Zeke and helps bury his body in the backyard. She is also in love with Floyd, a product of the Foster care system himself. Floyd is sentenced to life in prison for a rape and murder he did not commit. The book is more about friendship bonds and unconditional love, than it is about the murder of Valerie's abusive step-father, or Delores being married to two men at the same time. Mary Morris has a way of telling a serious story with humor. Even though this story deals with murder, bigamy, lies, and a whole lot of deception, I found myself overlooking the seriousness of these issues and plotting along with Delores as she tries to keep her bestfriends secret and maintain her two hoseholds. When in the end she loses everything but land on her feet, while Valerie self-destructs, my only disappointment was in Floyd who expected so much but gave nothing in the end.
Do You like book She Had It Coming (2008)?
Wasn't as good as her other books, but it was okay. Was expecting a better ending though.

It wasn't bad. would have loved for Valerie to have a better ending but crime doesn't pay
