This book becomes definitely historical fiction in tone, departing from the mystery of Book 1. The main characters travel to Elizabethan England and Prague to track down a manuscript. Still filled with vampires, witches, & daemons, the story describes life at that time while offering clues to modern day characters of the presence of Matthew & Diana in the past. This book, in some ways, requires more suspension of disbelief than the first installment in this series. I am eagerly awaiting my turn for the third from the library. Suggest the audio book, because it is very long. The author is very descriptive so at least in the audio form I felt like I could actually picture what was happening, but on paper it may seem too long. Love story is a little Blah, Twilight, but the overall story was interesting with traveling back in time to discover how to be a witch. i really did love this book and am about to finish the trilogy.
