To Seduce a Sinner, by Elizabeth Hoyt, is a completely engaging novel. A lovely story that really shows you can not always tell who a person is or what's going on in their lives by merely looking on the outside. This was my First Elizabeth Hoyt novel, and I really liked it. I will definitely be going back for more!Jasper, Viscount Vale, has been rejected by his second fiancé, and this one on his wedding day! A man suffering from PTSD, Jasper, just wants to move on with his life, and try to put the horrible past behind him. He must be the unluckiest man alive, right? Well, as he is thinking just this in the church where he was suppose to be married, quite Melisande Fleming comes in and asks if he will marry her. He doesn't even know her name, but after getting it he readily agrees. His luck is definitely about to change!Melisande has been secretly in love with Jasper for years! She has watched him go after woman after woman, and she has finally decided that she can stand by no longer. She seizes the chance to marry her man, but keeps her secrets to herself. Shy in the day passionate at night, Melisande intrigues Jasper.The story is introduced by little snippets of a German tale that Melisande has been translating about a returned solider named laughing Jack. I loved this aspect of the novel as it gave clarity to how the characters were feeling. As Jack goes through different trials in his quest home, Jasper and Melisande go through trials in their marriage. Can Jasper get over his need to find justice for the loss of his best friend in the war? Can Melisande get over her painful past and let Jasper know the real her? Sinfully Good Romance. Vale and Melisande are on the surface completely opposite people. Vale is a joker who seeks crowds and is the center of attention; Melisande is a brown clad introvert who does not like socializing. Both characters, however, hide deep pain behind these social masks. Hoyt does a great job of exploring the motivations of these characters and taking the reader on a journey where the two characters explore the deep pain that each holds inside themselves. Hoyt's characters are never simplistic. They are original and her language is evocative and full of emotion.
