About book Secret Girlfriend (2000)

Secret Girlfriend was an okay book, not awesome but okay. I fully recommend reading it though because the second book in the series is so worth reading this one. As I said, this book was okay. The main character, Amy, was mostly likeable but she was a bit of a doormat at first and it took her a little too long to shed her doormat ways. That made it hard to feel bad for her. Otherwise, the story held my interest throughout and Amy's interactions with Luke were really fun to read. I've been on a bit of a YA chick lit binge lately. Light and easy to read fits the bill right now. But I found this book dissatisfying. I think the author had some interesting ideas, but I don't think they were well executed. I found the whole book a bit flat. There were no real high points in the plot, and the characters were wooden. I love well written dialogue, but dialogue in this book was limited and wooden. If there is a classification lower than 'G' this is how this book would be rated. After the whole book, I thought at least I could count on a kiss with the boy of her choice. Even the Disney princesses get a good snog at the end of the movie. Instead, in this book the boy just 'brushes his lips' over Amy's. WTF? All around disappointing. There are better offerings to be read in this genre.
