This book was pretty good; if 3.5 stars was an option, I'd give it that.The main points off are because of the writing itself and the ending. For the former: there are times he's crystal clear, and then there are times he drifts in to ambiguity. Ambiguity isn't necessarily a problem, but it made it hard to understand certain key scenes. It didn't drift off entirely but enough to be uncertain of the goings-on (I don't think this was a deliberate stylistic choice). It was also hard to tell if I'm supposed to like the main character, and I don't think that was deliberate; the characters empathy is not developed and it's hard to tell if he's a genuine (good) person. For the latter: I re-read the ending a few times...I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, but I thought the ending was kind of outlandish, even for this book's premise.Finally, it was a bit prone to cliche; which is fine. This book was more brain candy than anything else; a good catch at the airport bookstore. I do recommend it. (E-Lib) Stacy's pick for FBB. I didn't really care for this book. I feel like it had a lot of potential as a story, but the execution just didn't do it for me. I especially hated reading about how inept everybody at the hospital was. It might be true, but I don't like hearing about it. The scene in the freezer where he makes a knife out of his shinbone is one of the most messed up things I've ever read. Could barely get through it.
