First I listened to the audiobook version. I'm not sure that it makes a difference but to some it might. I really enjoyed this book. In fact it's the best in the series so far. I enjoyed the first book, but the second was HORRIBLE. So I went into this book with very low expectations (expecting to hate it as much as the last one). But honestly I found Silences story to be the most "real" of all the books so far. She and Mick have chemistry and a connection I can easily believe. And both characters are interesting and easy to love. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good love story. If you can make it through the first two books, then read them in order. BUT if you find them as boring as I did then this book can be read as a stand alone book. I have to say that, thus far, this is my favorite Maiden Lane book. I always liked Silence from the first when she was introduced as Terperance Dews' sister in #1. I always thought she was a lost soul in need of someone to truly appreciate her as a woman, even though she was married at that time. With the arrival of Mary Darling and the mysterious gifts surrounding her, she became an even stronger character for me. Naturally, being a pirate fan, it was refreshing to have one on land! Granted, he was most everything one would expect in your, run of the mill, with his crew, flamboyant decor and arrogance, though a parrot and a peg leg would have been a bit cheesy. Either way, I loved the story, especially surrounding his enemy and his subsequent rescue by the Ghost of St. Giles, who is another intriguing and unique character. Add to that, the little fables beginning each chapter and I turned those pages!

I did not plan to like this book at the beginning, but it turned out well and was a delightful read.
