Scandal of The Year is the second book of Abandoned at the Altar series from Laura Lee Guhrke. Honeystly i wasn't interested to read this as i read reviews of the first book and its not promising. But i had time in hand and decided to skip the first book and to read this one. The story open with divorce hearing of Lord and scandalous Lady Yardley over her affair with Duke of Thraten. She was escatic with the court because it finally deem her free of her husband of 12 years. Almost a year later, Julia (Lady Yardley) and Aidan (Duke of Thraten) met once again in a ball where Aidan is trying to find a new wife after twice jilted. One with Julia's cousin Beatrix (the first book of the series) and the second because of the scandal. From the very first we know that Duke of Thraten is an honourable gentleman and has strong feelings for Julia. While Julia does not reciprocate. Both of them know the affair happened because Julia used Aidan to be free of her husband. Throughout the book we got flashes of their history over 13 years when they first met and understand how Aidan can have such strong feeling for Julia and how Julia is also attracted to Aidan but was so numb she hardly feels anything anymore. I think the reason why I don't give this book higher rating because everything was set in fast forward move towards the end I was left stunned and think "wow, was that it? and how can that happen?" It's like Guhrke build the story and then realize that she only has couple of pages left so she just wrote and conclude everything. The hero of the story is a fine man, but the heroine - she's supposed to be tortured and troubled. Only problem is, she's brought all of her troubles onto herself (divorce, horrible husband, huge debts) and compounded them through her own carelessness and thoughtlessness. Even though she is supposed to have charm in spades, I finally decided that I really didn't like her at all - besides being a mooch who lives off her friends and family (and I have no idea how she could pay her servants any wages), she has no visible redeeming qualities to her character. I just couldn't see a lasting happy ending for the story, because of the heroine's flaws.

The writing was fine, but I did't like the characters much.
