Wow. Just wow.The graphic novel begins with a probably fictional, but totally believable, very shocking story on scalping. Raw, unedited for sensibilities, the word "graphic" is used entirely as it should be. Places and massacres are mentioned (ahem, "depicted") which makes me want to run to the Internet (or my own library) to get the story on them... Both the White Mans' version and the Indians' version. It's certainly not written like this in our American History classes, I can guarantee you! There would be Outrage! (there have been movements that the african slaves' descendents should be remunerated for what their ancestors were put through... I think the American Indian tribes went through far worse, most were exterminated in toto, and those who are left are still experiencing their trials. In a way, I'm glad for the casinos; it's a definite method of getting back some money. Unless its being done as shown in these books.)The war for the Rez of Prarie Rose is in full force in this volume. Warning: lots of violence, LOTS. But "cleaning up" sometimes requires blood sacrifices. Many comic series and books are being made into movies or tv series; this one would be a good one! I don't think the (white) American public is ready for it though. Nor even the American Indian one either. I think there'd be HUGE protests on both sides. I'd still watch it and recommend it, if for no other reason than revealing the truth about "cowboys and Indians", in the past or the present.Highly recommended. Scalped is an amazing modern noir story set on an Indian reservation with a full cast of undesirable characters. The main character is Dashiell Bad Horse, an undercover FBI agent who is sent back to his home rez in South Dakota to ferret out the unsavory dealings of the tribal chief, Red Crow. I love how the entire series blends together Native activism from the 60s with current exploitation through gaming today and how the Federal government continues to fuck over Native communities. This book is the penultimate trade paperback and I'm very sad to come to the end of this. It's very violent and has a number of disturbing scenes, so I would not recommend this to the faint of heart.
Do You like book Scalped, Volume 9: Knuckle Up (2013)?
