I have read 'The Brothers Karamazov' and admire and adore Fyodor Dostoyevsky very much. Starting with 'Oru Sangeerthanam Pole', I had the expectation that I could be in the shoes of the great author and go through his crests and troughs. The book gave me that, but only in short bursts. At certain points, Perumbadavam is highly successful is drawing a neat portrait of the great author. His journeys and sufferings are shown in great detail. However, there were many parts where it dwindles down to rants of a gambling addict and alcoholic. I believe these portions were a little exaggerated. The book follows his journey whilst writing 'The Gambler'. Wish I had read that first before reading this book. Guess I would have enjoyed it more.
