Not really a whole book. This feels like the opening few chapters to a much more complicated paranormal novel. The setting is interesting - fireman discovers secretive Gargoyle community, but I honestly had no more idea of what was going on with the gargoyles at the end than I did at the very mysterious beginning.Who was that guy? Power struggle where? He sees what, how? Other than some confusing 'seeing thing' - he can 'see' them, but he doesn't 'see' them, but then his roommate 'sees' them, then his lover makes him 'see' him - I couldn't tell you anything that happens in this book. Read a couple times now while doing my yearly readthrough of everything Mary Calmes has written. I don't really like this one much-- it was overall a little ridiculous, and the love interest didn't have much personality, or many sentences that didn't sound stilted. Just because he isn't human doesn't mean he shouldn't sound real. Or something to that effect. Hero was another of Calmes' heroes that are loved by everyone they come across, but I consider that par for the course.
Do You like book Romanus (2010)?
A very good story that could have been great if it were about 50 pages longer.
