Kennilworthy Whisp's history of Quidditch is rather dry; nonetheless, it does contain some fine entertainments.His chapter on "The Arrival of the Golden Snitch" is particularly fun, especially when talking about the Golden Snidgets that gave rise to what we now call the Snitch. Another high point is his chapter on "Quidditch Teams of England and Ireland," which recounts each team's finest moments and illuminates the long time rivalries that are sure to spring up in any sporting competition. Overall, Quidditch Through the Ages is a fair overview of the sport for those who are just learning, and a nice light read for those who are already die-hard fans -- even if they are long suffering fans of the Chudley Cannons.Still, Quidditch Through the Ages doesn't quite reach the heights of Whisp's seminal work -- The Wonder of the Wigtown Wanderers -- which cannot be recommended highly enough (for everyone but fans of their greatest rivals, of course).Fun to read to your kids too.

Quidditch Through the Ages is very clever book charting the history of this illustrious and completely health and safety free competition! :D We get to see the beginning of how it evolved from a eyewitness who has a serious case of nose out of joint over the issue to how it evolved into the modern form! :DThroughout the tale is told with thick levels of humour as well as anecdotes on how things that are in the game and how they are enforced came about! :D Being nailed to a dungeon door and havin

This book came in a package with "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" when I bought it. Of the two, I prefer this one. "Quidditch Through the Ages" goes in-depth with a very convincing history. Rowling does a great job making this world believable that it’s real. She starts off from the invention of this game in a wizard family’s backyard, shows historical artifacts, and explains the more primitive version of the sport. She goes on to talk about rules, historic games, advances in brooms and balls used in the game, and how it is played today. Overall, it is amazing how much she developed the world she created.One thing I’m surprised she didn't mention was the IQA, International Quidditch Association. This is the muggle Quidditch organization that is established in many universities around the world. The book made it clear that this book has been released to the muggle community (that’s how I read it) as it originally started in wizard libraries. Therefore, I thought it would have included the IQA as to relate to muggles.I would recommend this book to those who have read the Harry Potter series or seen the movies. It helps enhance the world that has been created and compliments the movies and books.
