***2.5 Stars*** Interesting idea but I had a hard time with the point of view and I kept thinking I was reading about Ethan and Merit. It just felt like a good story that's been done before. I can't stand insta-love and I felt like there was a pretty instant profession of love. A lot of the parts that I was interesting in reading about were simply glossed over and the timeline was confusing. I'll still read the next book. Here's hoping there's better development. I'm not sure how much effort I want to put into a review for a book like this. It served its basic purpose of entertainment, and I've certainly read worse, but I can't recommend it to anyone. The major problem of the book for me was the lack of a strong protagonist. The book bills Miranda as the lead, but she hardly drives the action of the plot. The romance was cheesy and underdeveloped to me. There was a contrived effort toward the appearance of being awesome/cool, and it just felt derivative of the Underworld film franchise. That left a lot of the "epic" moments flat and lame. And of course, the fact that the whole thing is clichéd. Anyone who gives this book a try should be warned that there is a pretty graphic and brutal gang rape in the beginning. Honestly, as uncomfortable as it made me, I thought the author handled it well. In the end I skimmed pages. I was impatient to just be done with this book. I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

I enjoyed this book. The author took her time to build the vampire shadow world.
