About book President Me CD: The America That's In My Head (2014)
Adam Carolla is once again on point with his brand of humor, satire, and social commentary. Once again, this book is frequently laugh-out-loud funny, as were his previous two books, "In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks", and "Not Taco Bell Material". The theme of this book is loosely an imagined scenario where Carolla states what he would change if he were President -- and chances are, you will be surprised by how much you agree with, even if it is just in the name of comedy.Under the guise of being the new President, at the core, this book is simply an effective way to air a great deal of pet peeves (some of which are peeves about *actual* pets -- very funny stuff). Every day, for all of us, there are any number of things that completely infuriate us in our daily lives; dumb rules or regulations, annoying people, things that unnecessarily consume our valuable time, etc. Carolla is truly a master at illustrating what bothers him - and, again, many of these things are very relatable - such that, his annoyance is palpable, even if you don't have the same problem he does. What's even better is his often-grandiose, over-the-top solutions to these problems that undoubtedly will have most people laughing. There are a couple of parts of this book where President Carolla is addressing the United Nations General Assembly that are positively cringe-worthy, but not in a bad way - the jokes are completely politically incorrect and scathing, but still very funny. Some may disagree, but while President Adam crosses many lines, he doesn't cross the final line, however you may define that. There is no way to take his satirical account of a fictional address as anything but humorous. This is far, far, far from a book for everyone. If you don't like satire, Carolla, or rants, this is not a book for you. If you are extremely sensitive or can't laugh at yourself or others, a) loosen up, and b) find another book. I would recommend this book heartily to anyone who enjoyed the first two books from Carolla, and would suggest reading those two books ahead of this one for anyone who might've missed them, to maximize what you're in for in this book. Eagerly awaiting whatever his next book will be about, whenever that might be released. "President Me" is comedian Adam Carolla's manifesto for how things would be if he were President. It is funny as all heck but there is a lot of cursing and vulgarities. Adam does not hold back as he expresses what are not conservative views in particular but what should be reasonable viewpoints for anyone with a brain.Any problems with this book? Well... Adam Carolla is an atheist so you can't expect him to care one way or the other about religion. He also curses a lot... I mean a whole lot. It's not gratuitous in the sense that he's not talking this way to shock you. I have the feeling that he talks this way most of the time. He is logical. he is asking the question of why, in a world that demands that he be tolerant of others, shouldn't others be tolerant of his views right back? Ten years ago his views would not be considered radical. He points out the hypocrisy of the world and provided common-sense solutions to these problems and makes you laugh along with it.Did I mention he curses a lot?OK. Good.
