About book Plain Perfect Daughters Of The Promise Novel (2000)

A nice, easy, predictable romance... not to be underrated. There's something to be said for a book that doesn't completely shred your insides. Again this book suffers from the whole "miscommunication as a plot device" ailment that seems to be affecting romance authors everywhere. Fortunately there's more to it than that. We don't doubt through the book that they love each other, there's just stuff in the way. As stuff tends to do. The story of God's grace and forgiveness is beautifully woven in between the love story and the book left me feeling at peace. A great little read. What do you do when your life is in shambles...you've lost your job; you need to get away from your boyfriend, because he's not the man you thought he was; your mother has issues and makes you feel like you're the parent? Everything is so complicated and stressful for Lillian and she just wants to find a peaceful place and live a less stressful, complicated life. Thus, she takes a trip to visit her old order Amish grandparents and learns a lot of important life lessons along the way. This is a sweet story of redemption and new beginnings. The main character Lillian is searching for answers to her past and substance to fill the holes she has in her life. The Amish community of her mother's parents offers her peace and belonging, but her old life is not so easily discarded or abandoned.I enjoy stories of redemption...characters fall down, get up and try again, repeating the cycle as often as necessary to move forward in life. I like these types of stories because, like it or not, we all fall down and (hopefully) get back up, don't we? This book illustrates that forgiveness is a process; we might take the girl out of the city, but it's more difficult to take the city out of the girl. I am excited that this is the first book in a series. I look forward to reading the next book.
