About book Otomen, Buku 1 (2008)

I haven't read manga for a long time. After reading this I know it was too long. I missed it! Cute shojo manga is at it's best with Otomen. This was a title I wanted to read when I was back in Japan but by the time I wanted to pick it up it was already at 15 volumes or something ridiculous and I was getting ready to leave Japan. I miss reading it in Japanese but the English was still still good. I like Asuka and Ryo a lot but I don't think he could be a fictional boyfriend for me. I just like routing for him. This was a good start to a new series! This series addressed a strange, unique but interesting concept. Usually I don't like reading shojo manga because its very played out and you know what's going to happen. Otomen is a little different in this sense. I've never read a manga where there was a man that like the types of activities that are considered feminine (to most people). He has some manly activities as well. The main character, Asuka likes a girl named Ryo but is afraid to show his feminine side to her. Well that's the central idea around the story. The manga is actually pretty funny, usually I can read a manga without even a chuckle so if you're looking for something different and want a little more out of your typical boy-meets-girl shojo story this is one to pick up and read!
