This is the 5th book in Ms. Mallery's Fools Gold series. These are contemporary romance novels set in the fictional town of Fools Gold near San Francisco California. The first 3 books were almost a mini cycle within the overall series. This book is the 2nd of another mini cycle, this time about a set of triplet sisters.I am not usually a fan of contemporary romance but this series is different. The characters are much richer and more real. You find yourself really caring about them and what happens to them, even the secondary characters! This book is about Montana and a visiting plastic surgeon. He specializes in severe burn victims and has a difficult past. Montana has just found what she wants to do with her life and is starting to gain confidence in herself. There is also interesting side stories about couples from previous books, babies, and more about the triplets mother. These are really nice and fun reads that always have a little bit deeper message than what you would expect. I look forward to the next book and learning even more about the people who live in Fools Gold! This continues the series, moving on to the next triplet, Montana. Her work with therapy dogs is quite fascinating, and she encounters the very talented visiting doctor... who seems borderline autistic for much of the book. His trauma is finally explained, but it is clearly Montana's highly developed sense of empathy and caring which makes it possible for them to become friends plus. I was often impressed by how rational and patient she could be, how easily she set aside her own hurt and was able to understand, repeatedly, where he was coming from, and not react poorly. Maybe I don't know the right people, but I wonder how credible that is. Nonetheless, it makes for a very interesting read. This was a weekend break type of read, and provided exactly the type of literary relaxation I was after.
