Beautifully written. I loved the Indian mysticism, woven in with Drudic and Celtic legend, Christian and European history. This book really gives you the vastness and reach of the French and British colonial empires, the people and places that represented and what that meant for Victorian England.I also enjoyed that it touched up how inter-racial marriage was accepted and allowed during the time of the British East India Company and how that slowly died out as the Raj took shape. Fascinating. I adored our hero with his twin names of Adrian and Raju. I'd be a bit suspect of the name Adrian, it wasn't really one used by the ton, but it did give his inability to fit into British society a bit more credit. I adored his sister Anisha. I can't wait to get to Nish's story at some point. The mysticism & diverse cultures makes this quite different from your normal Regency romances. This is the first book of the Guardian Series written by Ms. Carlyle and it's quite a good read with very hot & sensual scenes. Also has a good mystery added to themix. I'm excited to read the rest of the series. Still trying to figure out why I can't seem to give it bigger star than 3. Just felt something missing.
