About book O Guerreiro Highlander (2011)

I really enjoyed this book. For whatever reason, I am always drawn the brutal and desperate history of the Highlanders, and read through McCarty's word, that are laced with historical facts, it's like a moth to the flame. Well rounded story, very well told. Classically romantic without being mawkish. I was about a chapter in and I could feel myself completely sink into the story, grateful to finally have something meaty to read that didn't feel like it was written in a day. While the plot and events in the story are pretty familiar, the author's voice gave it a life of its own and characters strong enough to make the paradigm of a tale, their own. Again, there is many historical references that not only intrigue, but pulled me so deep into the world within the story. It had many elements and layer so well combine, the end result was a robust story with struggles, heartbreak and triumph. Loved the depth and growth of the characters, and the chemistry between them plain enough. Very good read to me, and I will be jumping to the next in the series directly. Caitrina is now in my Top 5 Worst Heroines of All-Time.She NEVER learns to trust Jamie yet says she loves him. Then when she doesn't get her way, she uses her body ON PURPOSE to get her way or distract Jamie. Meanwhile Jamie keeps throwing himself at her, and she keeps stomping on him. Did I mention that Jamie is supposedly one of the most feared men in the Highlands? Yeah, if that is sounding a little contradictory, then you're right.I can't remember another book where I've made it to 90% done and had to give up, but I couldn't take it anymore. Caitrina makes a big deal about trying to no longer be naive and spoiled, but despite everything that's happened, she hasn't grown at all by the end of the book. Jamie isn't much better. Seriously, this man must want to be punished, because no matter how many time Caitrina hurts him, he goes back for more.I love Monica McCarty's Highland Guard series, and I'm just glad that I found that series before this one or I may have missed it. All in all, if you don't like whiny, childish heroines, don't bother. Check out the Highland Guard series for much better examples. (Well, after The Chief, as the heroine from that book reminds me too much of Caitrina, now that I think about it. AFTER that, however, the books get good. Especially The Ranger and The Hunter.)
