Having read this novel several times over the course of the past few years out of boredom (Moreso lack of new literature, honestly.), I can truthfully say I never get tired of it. Though no, it isn't the most brilliantly written thing I've ever laid my eyes on, it's still absolutely thrilling, and heartfelt. Twice or so it made me cry the first time I'd read it (After nonchalantly picking it up at a Costco sale, actually.) I enjoyed that the romantic factors didn't overpower the novel, and that the imagery was just perfect enough to help me draw a lovely little picture in my head; No unnecessary detail drawn out over the course of a page just to describe a bush or a chair, you understand. It's quite fast paced, always something new to catch your attention and get you diving into the next chapter. My only real criticism is that Moses himself never really seemed to develop much emotion, I thought. He appeared to me, mentally, as though he was perfectly stoic more than enough of the book. While saddening, it made him a bit dull at moments. Chronology was perfect, wording was choice. The ending was incredibly well thought out, and didn't leave me thinking over loose ends at all. Lovely book, truly. I was torn reading this one. It seemed to want to be great and in places was almost there, but then fell flat, as a combo platter of several well known stories hacked to pieces and Frankensteined into something doesn't necessarily make it good drama.I couldn't quite figure out if it was Quasimodo, or Phantom of the opera with better lighting and makeup.I kept getting all tangled up in the plot thickening and wondered if this half baked tale could have used less time in the oven and more time on the cutting floor.
