About book Nothing Like You (2009)

This book was not what I was expecting, opening up to right after Holly looses her virginity to a boy with another girl friend. I think what shocks me more is that this boy, Paul, has a very attractive girlfriend, Saskia, and yet continues to sleep with Holly on many occasions. I know that Holly has lost her mother tragically to cancer 6 months prior to this, but she is reeling still from grief, even her close friends barely know her. Its not until a class project throws Holly and Saskia together that Holly starts to be friends with her that she tries to break things off with Paul. Add too the confusion, her long time best guy friend Nils, kisses her and says he has feelings for her as well. I liked the fact that sex and death are dealt with in a dignified manner and while you now things are happening, its not harped on like in other books. I thought the ending was a little abrupt for me. There are too many loose ends and things that are unanswered, but its not enough to take away from the book. I finally read it and I don't know if I like it or if I really like it or if I hate it.Holly was messed up. She did some shitty things and she paid for her mistakes.Nils was nice and a pretty good friend, but he needed to stay single for a while.Paul Bennet was a dick. Saskia, I liked her. She was a good person and I felt sorry for her, but atleast she got rid of Paul. That guy is poison. In the end, this book leaves us on a ambiguous note. Holly isn't okay, but she is better and will get better.Usually, I like endings when they are left open for interpretation but I wish this ending was more concrete.
