Needing Nita is a novella by Norah Wilson. It is a sensual novel. It is book 3.5 in the Serve and Protect series. Nita Reynolds has a brain tumor. She doesn’t know how to handle this news. Her Father had died of a brain tumor and her Mother had hounded her to ask for an MRI to make sure her headaches were not something more serious. Now she knew they were. What was she going to do now? She didn’t’ want to spend the rest of the day at work, doing nothing. Her law partner, Brad Knopfler told her to go ahead. She couldn’t bring herself to tell him about the tumor; but she realized that she had control over the rest of her life right now. Now was the time to do something she would regret not doing. Detective Craig Walker had just spent a long time on the phone to one of his aunt’s friend’s mother about graffiti. He tried to convince her that Major Crimes did not deal with graffiti but he would see that someone looked into it. Then he got a phone call he never imagined getting. It was Nita Reynolds inviting him to dinner. He wondered what she was up to since he had asked her out twice and she had refused each time. He accepted and hung up wondering what her last words meant. Their date turns into something else when he enters her apartment. It seemed that neither of them had any control. The next morning, he was still there when she receives a phone call from her doctor telling her a mistake in records was made and she did not have a tumor. What had she done now? Was she going to be the laughing stock of the police department? How could she get out of this? I thoroughly enjoy Norah Wilson's writing. She has the ability to captivate the reader and make a character real almost instantly. This works well for this short novella.It's easy to understand both Nita's resistance at the man that makes her heart race, and her reasons to throw caution to the wind. It also makes the reader wonder what changes they would make in similar shoes. For Craig, he's immediately likeable and caring, yet still maintains that sexy tough cop image. The chemistry between Nita Reynolds and Detective Craig Walker is hot hot hot! The one thing I had a hard time with was that the ending felt rushed. It may be a consequence of the novella, but how the hero was so intensely commitment seeking was a little bit much for this to feel real. Too much, too fast. That aside, Wilson did an incredible job giving this short novella a real novel feel. It's a great addition to a fantastic series and an enjoyable read!
