This could be the most difficult review I have ever written. I loved the book. In many ways it is my favorite love story but it is so much more, so much more. I am sure that there are people who will not agree with Mary's decision about how to die. Yes the book has a tragedy that you know about from the very first but there is so much beauty in the writing, in the places in the book and in the young girls on the river and their story. I really wish the Chungamunga girls really existed. It is a wonderful experience to offer to deserving young girls. If you can't love Mary in this book, I would worry about you. One of my favorite reads of all time! This book was a different read for me, and not one I would have picked myself. I read it for book club, and I ended up liking the book as a whole. I will say there are a few love scenes in it that made me blush, or I felt like I was interrupting something, but other than that it's a good romance. It took me to some interesting geographical places in my mind that I really enjoyed; and I loved the outdoorsy feel of the book with all of the camping, kayaking, etc. I think it's a great summer read, and I came to really enjoy (and now miss) the characters.
