Unfortunately, this also caused them to become so smart that the children were able to realize how much they could accomplish, and they would take out anybody who tried to get in their way. Mutation is the story of what happens to the Franks when they bring home their new baby, whom they call VJ, after his father Victor Sr., and the events that happen during the next few years. After the death of the Frank's first child, David, and their maid, the Frank's life seems to settle down for a time, until many seemingly unconnected events begin occurring. Robin Cook's Mutation captivated me with its realism and also scared me as I thought about how, with all the advancements in technology, this story could actually happen.In Mutation, the characters are easily one of the best parts of the book. Each character has their own unique personality, and the way they interact with each other is extremely believable. VJ has all of the air of an evil genius around him, his father acts like the proud father that every father would act like if his son was a genius, and his mother is uncomfortable with certain aspects of VJ's behavior, just the way he acts and how he seems to have no emotion. All of these aspects give the reader clues often times to the way the story may be going or what may happen next. The way the author has the reader watching the parents as they find out more about VJ, and the different ways they react to what they discover, gives the book an air of mystery. I found myself not liking VJ and being a little creeped out by him and his plans for science. An author who can actually elicit emotional responses from the reader shows a good author, in my opinion.A theme from this book that I interpreted was that, even though we may have the ability to alter and modify the human body to how we think it should be, should we? This issue has affected the lawmaking system many times and this book shows how doing this could affect the humanity of a person. This book could very well come true, and unlike the sci fi stories people read and then go and report seeing aliens in their backyard, the situation in Mutation could very well happen. It really makes the reader think, and some people may disagree with me but I think that some of the best books that I've ever read have made me think other than the time that I've been reading the book.In conclusion, if you like a well written book that will make you think or if you are a biology nerd like me who wants to read an entertaining book, Mutation is a good choice. This book will keep the reader interested and entertained throughout the book. As the saying goes, "This will keep the midnight oil burning", or electricity or whatever you may use to make light to read by. If Mutation is put on your to read list, I doubt that you will be disappointed by it.338 pages
Ez beteg.Ez volt az első gondolatom erről a könyvről. Ez volt a második Cook könyvem, az első teljesen elvarázsolt, de ezzel nagyon meg kellett küzdenem.Olvastam pár fejezetet, utána letettem, és órák múlva kezdtem neki megint, és ez így folytatódott, míg be nem fejeztem a könyvet.A történet elég jó, bár megdöbbentem azon, hogy Marsha és Viktor annak ellenére, hogy az egyik pszichológus a másik meg tudós, mennyire is hülyék.Viktor már a könyv elején unszimpatikus volt, és végig az is marad. Hogy ennyire fanatikus legyen egy ember az már nagyon beteges.Marsha meg szépen lassan utána járt a fiának, de amikor nyilvánvaló volt, hogy valami baj van Kivivel, akkor sem vett róla tudomást. Csak úgy, mint Viktor.Kivi pedig… Te szent ég. Magam előtt látom a szőke hajával és a kék szemével, ahogy a mexikói őröknek parancsokat osztogat, és mindenféle kísérleteket végez… Mindössze 10 évesen. És ez persze senkit sem zavar. Senki sem döbben meg rajta, hogy egy 10 éves gyerek mikre képes egy mikroszkóppal. Aha..És amikor elkezdett az apjával diskurálni olyan dolgokról, amikre az emberiség 1-2 %- a képes… És ennek Viktor örült.. Hát ember…De ez Viktor hibája.. Ő teremtette ezt a szörnyet, ahogy Marsha is mondta…A lezárást nem éreztem igazinak, mert nem tudtam meg, hogy most Kivi meghalt-e, és ott van Jason is…Szeretem a krimiket, de ez nekem nagyon beteg volt..
Do You like book Mutation (1989)?
well, to put it in succint way, the book is like modern day Frankenstien novel. As usual, Robin Cook grapped the hearts of his reader with this book. It's medical thriller as Robin Cook does best.But the only flaw I could find about this book is that you could guess quite easily who's the villain as least that was what happended to me. But, it's my favourite thriller novel despite the fact that I could predict who's the villain was and if you want to know more you should go and find out about yourself.That's all I'm gonna say.I would like to see thhis best selling book turned to movie block buster. I wonder which child would played the role of VJ?

Opening with a Mary Shelley quote, Mutation by Robin Cook immediately declares its intention to update the classic Frankenstein. The monster in this horror story is a super-intelligent ten-year-old boy named VJ.The ultimate resolution is obvious from the beginning. In addition the flat characters prevent the horror from reaching its potential. Thus, when the book is over, it feels like a hike through an amusement park ... upbeat music, fast turns, flashing lights, but no experiences of lasting impact or value.An excellent book to kill time on a long airplane flight.Fore more: http://1book42day.blogspot.com/2013/0...

Acabei de virar a última página do livro, na esperança de que não fosse a última. Mas, infelizmente, a história acabava ali. Acabei o livro com os olhos colados às letras e o coração a bombear. Sr. Robin Cook, acha bem depois de escrever aquela última revelação, acabar assim com a história? Fica-se assim com o suspense e o mistério no ar. Mas eu acho que é por isso que o livro é tão bom e nos prende tanto, literalmente até à última linha. Toda a história é muito bem escrita. É um policial médico, que, para mim que tenho uma costela de biologia, é absolutamente fascinante. Este livro é uma aula de genética, mais especificamente de engenharia genética. E os perigos de esta ser usada indevidamente. A criança que o cientista, no ínicio do livro, cria (literalmente) é um autêntico monstro e era daquelas personagens que não queria encontrar ali na esquina. Mesmo que essa personagem só tenha 10 anos.
