Generally only "the classics" seem to get 5 stars but honestly this book IS REALLY THAT GOOD. (Sorry, Hodgman's writing has shown me that ALL CAPS can and should be used on a regular basis.)As a former 'Ordained Minister' of the Church of SubGenius I loved Hodgman's book because it was so much like the SubGenius books and old newsletters and pamphlets."The Mole-Men" section started to really drag the book down but the rest is just too good to minus a star overall."[A] cut of chicken butt probably goes for $2.99 a cut. More it it's organic." This book is a mixed bag. It is comprised of a series of comedic bits packaged as "fake" trivia and observations on everything from pop culture to American and world history. It is likely from Hodgman's own comedic repertoire over years. It is also quite a voluminous work, as this is only one of a current trio of books on the same subject matter.Some bits are hilariously funny and witty. At its best, they are brilliant examinations on current/past events and well-constructed satire on a given topic. Most of the time, though, the book is just a series of silly bits of trivia and somewhat inside jokes for the regular Hodgman readers.In between however are bits that range from groan-inducing puns to curiously random thoughts that fail to hit the right comic timing. In other words, the set up goes on too long and fails to make the punch line worth it. Selectivity and quality control was unfortunately not seen as a priority in the compilation of this book.
Love this audiobook. Read by the author and special guests. Entertaining and lots of fun facts.
