About book Modrá Jako Safír (2012)

Hmmm...I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I really enjoyed the first in the series. Although it feels like it's written for a younger audience than what I normally go for when reading YA I just found the book fun and I liked the main character a lot. Ruby Red also built up to a lot of reveals for the second book. Or so I thought. Sapphire Blue actually doesn't reveal much at all. A lot of the characters I was looking forward to learning more about were actually completely left out. Pretty much the entire book focuses on teaching Gwen how to pass at a party in the past which unless I missed a crucial part actually doesn't reveal much at all apart from introducing the widow in the green dress. The other part of the book focuses it's entire attention on the romance between Gideon and Gwen...and I really don't care about the romance aspect of the novels. I was hoping to learn more about the prophecies and about the mystery behind Paul and Lucy and so on. If there was some of that between the kissing scenes and the goofing around I'd be pretty happy but I'm left pretty unsatisfied really. The scenes with Lucas Montrose really saved the book for me. They were sweet and unlike the romance between Gideon and Gwen I really believed that Gwen loved her grandfather. I'd give this book 2 and a half stars if I could. Pretty meh and unnecessary. The series would have done well to be one solid book with dragging bits cut out instead of a forced trilogy in my opinion. I'll still read the third and last book of the series cause with no questions answered and more added in Sapphire Blue I'm expecting an exciting finale. I was interested to see where this story was going, so I got right into book two. I enjoyed it better than book 1, and now I am reading Emerald Green the final installment. I feel a little badly for saying book one had too many Cassandra Clare elements when I now see lots of variance. Great adventure, mystery, and a terrific heroine who isn't afraid to show her young love feelings. The mystery the time travelers will unlock is the looming question, and I have lots of theories. I think the secret has to do with immortal life. I also suspect the count is using the time travelers, and that he is much more evil than he seems. I think the traitor inside is Mr George. But, really, who knows. Can't wait to get to the bottom of the series.
