Do You like book Miss Julia Stands Her Ground (2006)?
I always enjoy Miss Julia, but this one was particularly fun to listen to. The author gives us a glimpse into Miss Julia's life before Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd came into so it's evident how much they've changed her. Also, when the question of Little Lloyd's parentage comes up, she is ferocious in defending Hazel Marie and taking on Brother Vernon Puckett (Hazel Marie's uncle). However, the funniest and most surprising event is when Emma Sue Ledbetter (the minister's meek and obedient wife) goes after Brother Vern with a purse full of hundreds of pennies - it's priceless. A wonderful addition to those of us who are Miss Julia fans.

In #7 or #8, Hazel Marie’s uncle, smarmy televangelist Uncle Vern, reappears, claiming Little Lloyd (now at least 12) was not, in fact, fathered by Miss Julia’s late first husband. He therefore denounces Hazel Marie a wicked, fallen woman who has inveigled her way into the cushy Miss Julia household. This is Brother Vern’s third attempt to gain control of Little Lloyd’s share of the Springer estate. Hazel Marie’s sketchy past troubles both Miss Julia and Hazel Marie anew, but of course paternity is proved and family respectability, such as it is, is restored.

I still enjoy these books, but honestly, they usually are based on a premise that could be cleared up if Julia would just ask the right questions of the right people. Also, while the solution did have a bit of a twist, it was pretty clear early on what the answer was generally, if not exactly. What I liked about this book was that the whole middle went back to the first Christmas they all spent together, which was not in any other book, and it was very sweet. I'll keep reading these, but only one or two a year, not too close together.
