This was better than the first one of this series I read, but I still had big issues with it. Like the other, there were numerous instances of anachronistic speech that continually threw me out of the story. This one starts with a very engaging opening scene- in the middle of the heroine's inexplicable abduction, as seen through her eyes. The story jumped in with very high stakes, which draws the reader immediately into the action. Then we met the hero and it felt like the action came to a screeching halt as we meandered through several pages of his internal dialogue as he and his entire backstory was thoroughly introduced to us in what amounted to a large, up-front info-dump. Very clunky. It would have been much better to distribute that information gradually and let us stay in the moment. I felt like my attention never fully engaged again after that. I'm loving this series so far, and especially loving the whole spy/secret society thing that they have going on. So far there is a mystery to be had in each book and a wonderful adventure waiting to be had. And I really liked the 'Indiana Jones' treasure hunt that went on in this book. Though I'm slightly upset that I have to wait out another book until I can read about Drake :( , I'm certain that the next book will be wonderful but I'm dying to know how his story goes!
